Blitz Inc Seattle - Bellevue Reviews the movie 'Rudy.'
Blitz Inc Seattle comments on 'Rudy:' I watched the movie 'Rudy' again recently. I had always seen the ending, but none of the character development or story line. I definitely enjoyed the movie, but there were some things I wanted to get a 2nd opinion on. I asked the staff of Blitz Inc Seattle | Blitz Inc Bellevue if they: 1 - liked the movie, 2 - why they liked it. These are the points from the movie that I want to focus on:
- Rudy wanted to do something that others didn't or couldn't do.
- Since no one thought that he could, they let him know how "stupid" he was.
- Rudy had an impeccable work ethic and heart, but almost zero athletic ability.
- Rudy overcame obstacles himself, but did find a few supporters.
Blitz Inc Seattle 's Employees Comments:
After some debate, only two of Blitz Inc's employees disliked the movie because it was long and "boring." Setting all of that aside, people liked the fact that it dealt with overcoming obstacles, attaining great feats, rooting for the underdog, and everything that goes with proving people wrong and gaining something for yourself.
Blitz Inc Seattle 's Review on the Above Points.
- Rudy wanted to do something that others didn't or couldn't do. I think that when it comes to running a company, buying a company, or starting one, you have to start with an idea...a wanting for something more. As I grew up in a small town, I wasn't surrounded with a lavish lifestyle and I didn't drive by million-dollar homes to inspire me (as many of us can in Seattle - there's some great houses out here). I didn't see really expensive cars driving down the street (again, unlike here in Seattle...especially in Bellevue). Most of our community drove decent cars and trucks, but no one I knew drove around in luxury or anything. So when I wanted something more, it wasn't because others were doing it and I wanted to do it too. I just wanted something different than small-town Iowa. Don't get me wrong, I love my roots, my family, my friends, and the environment. I wouldn't have wanted to be raised any differently. But that's my point. In order to achieve something different. You have to start with a WANT. That "want" then turns into a "need." When you "need" something, you make it happen. i.e. 'Rudy.
- Since no one thought he could, they let him know how "stupid" he was. If you are starting a company or buying one, the fact remains that other people may think that you are crazy, stupid, ignorant, or may think that you are going to get hurt in the process. If others have legitimate reasons why you shouldn't do something, look at the legitimacy. What's their expertise in the area. If my financial planner says that I shouldn't buy a certain stock, I would probably listen to him. If my buddy says I shouldn't buy a certain stock, I would take that with a grain of salt. Our friends and family may be concerned with whatever we are trying to do, and some might even voice this concern with name-calling or badmouthing. Just remember, they mean the best (hopefully). Don't be too concerned with proving these people wrong as a means of motivation. You won't get very far. Your desire to achieve something different should come from within. It should be stronger than other people's opinions. If it's not, you will listen to other people who don't have the credentials to give advice.
- Rudy had an impeccable work ethic and heart, but almost zero athletic ability. Granted, you need some sort of skill to play the game, but you won't go far if you don't have the heart or the work-ethic. When I used to wrestle back in Iowa, I would see these really "ripped' guys who I thought would be really strong, get their butts handed to them by other kids who worked really hard on technique and conditioning. Natural talent or ability will only get you so far. Bust your ass during practice and the off-season was the lesson learned. So if you are naturally good at one thing or another in your business, don't let off in other areas. Work every day to become a little bit better at some facet of your business by the end of the week. If you are just starting out, make sure that you are in a business that exposes your strengths and something that you may have a little knowledge in. Then make sure that you can get more information, learn the ins-and-outs, and continue to work hard toward your goals.
- Rudy overcame obstacles himself, but did find a few supporters. In life, business, and relationships, we will always be faced with obstacles. We can let that obstacle get the best of us and we can quit. We can also let that obstacle become a tool for learning and challenge ourselves to develop bigger than the obstacle. The movie 'Rudy' has several examples of this, i.e. not getting high enough grades during high school to get in to Notre Dame. So, Rudy saved his money and worked his butt off in community college at Holy Cross, got a tutor, and always kept his goal of playing for the Fighting Irish in front of him. After receiving several non-admission letters of rejection, he continued to work on his grades and apply. Most of us would have quit, but most of us don't have that goal either. Many people said that he was crazy for even trying, but as the movie progresses, he finds a few supporters who believe in him. I think all of us need a few supporters. We especially need them when times get tough. Look hard enough and you'll find them. That little spark of confidence that they can provide in you might just be enough to re-energize your efforts and blast through the next obstacle.
Blitz Inc Seattle | Bellevue on "Winning:"
Unfortunately, not all of us can be "Rudy." There is no team in the league that looks for these guys. There's no professional team of short little non-athletic football players with a lot of heart. So just having heart and a great work ethic aren't enough sometimes. But talent without them never equals success.

As many people are aware, Australians are very good at 'rooting for the underdog' so I believe this could be a movie that I'd like. Anyway, I like you writing style....very easy to read :-)
Great stuff. I like winning.
Hey are there any sites to stream this movie from? I want to show it to my class.
