Blitz Inc Seattle - Bellevue Reviews the Introduction

When interviewing for any position, employers care less about what it says on your resume and more about how you interact during the interview. Unless you are interviewing for a job that requires a certain amount of skill i.e. tech positions, you should focus more on preparing for a great meeting and dialogue with your interviewer(s).

Blitz Inc Seattle - Bellevue Reviews Some Hot Tips:

  1. Dress for the part. People notice your body language and image. This will either help you or harm you. The first 10-seconds of an interview are crucial. If you don't know what to wear, simply ask beforehand.
  2. Use a firm handshake. This displays confidence and enthusiasm. Employers love that and puts a little icing on the confidence cake.
  3. Have a great attitude. If the interviewer asks you how your day is going, reply with a positive answer. An employer doesn't want to hear about your struggles with traffic or waking up this morning. Use discretion before you speak.
  4. Don't attempt to control the FLOW of the interview. Overly-confident people may come off egotistical and potentially tough to manage to the employer. A good interviewer will allow time for questions, if you have any. Wait for that time.
  5. Eye-contact speaks volumes. If you had too much coffee before your interview and you find yourself glancing away from the interviewer and checking out the scenery, you may not get called back. This portrays dis-interest and a disconnect. You want to be on the same page with your interviewer.
  6. Smile!...but not too much. Employers like to see that you are human and that you would be able to fit in to their culture. Every business culture is a little different, but I would assume that none of them hate happy people.
  7. Don't just wing it. Put some thought into your answers and don't apologize for being nervous. Employers understand that most people may experience a little nervousness when interviewing, but they don't want people who make excuses for their performance.

Blitz Inc Seattle Assessment on the interview process.

At the end of any interview, be sure that you have a clear expectation regarding the follow-up process. No matter what they teach you in school, someone who constantly calls back to see if a company has "made a decision" may do more harm than good. So, be sure you know what is acceptable before making a follow-up phone call.

Hopefully you don't over-think the interview process. Employers are meeting you for the first time and you want to make a good impression. After that, discuss your transferable skills. If it comes down to two people who have the same skill-set, but one made a great first impression over the other, who do you think they are going to choose? Good luck!
